TranscriptGrab

About TranscriptGrab

Why we built this

YouTube has a "Show transcript" button, but it is buried in a side panel, awkward to copy, and impossible to take with you. The alternatives online are paywalled, login-gated or riddled with daily limits. TranscriptGrab exists to remove every one of those walls: paste a URL, get the full transcript, copy it or download it as TXT or SRT — timestamps on or off — in seconds, with no account and no video-length limit.

How it works

The tool reads the caption track that YouTube already stores for the video — manual captions and auto-generated (ASR) captions alike, in every language the video offers — and converts it into clean, readable text. There is no transcription cloud churning in the background, which is why even three-hour podcasts come back almost instantly. The SRT export drops straight into video editors and subtitling tools; the clean-text mode is perfect for notes, blog drafts, quotes with precise timestamps, and pasting into AI assistants for summaries. Private or age-restricted videos cannot be extracted — we only work with what YouTube itself serves publicly.

Why is it free?

The service is light and cheap to run, and it is funded by advertising from third-party ad networks (banners, video and sponsored links). That lets us keep every feature — unlimited extractions, all languages, TXT and SRT export — free for everyone, forever, with no account required. See the Privacy Policy for details on advertising cookies and your choices, and the Terms for how to use transcripts respectfully (they belong to their creators).

Contact

Feedback, bug reports, feature ideas or partnership questions are all welcome:

If you write about a bug, include the video URL and whether it had manual or auto captions — that lets us reproduce it quickly. If a specific video returns no transcript even though YouTube shows one, send us the link and we will investigate the caption format.
